What is Kids over Career?

This is my story of building products, learning, experimenting with AI, while focused on spending time with my family and earning a living on my terms.

This newsletter is part journal, part field guide. Some issues you’ll get stories from my own journey — the wins, the stumbles, the experiments. Other times, I’ll break down what I learned into practical takeaways you can use for your own projects.

I want this to be entertaining, educational, with a touch of inspiration while hopefully building connections and learning from others doing similar things.

Who this is for:
If you want to break free from corporate life and build something of your own, but value time with your kids while they’re young more than getting rich - you’ll feel right at home here.

What you can expect:

  • Build-in-public posts and retrospectives on what is and is not working.

  • Deep-dives and tutorials on things I am learning and experimenting with, particularly AI.

  • Productivity experiments, results and ideas for implementing them yourself.

  • Practical strategies for balancing ambition with family life.

I don’t have it figured out — this is a chronicle of the process.

About Me:
I’m Brian. I have worked in software my entire career. With a little skill and a lot of luck, I have stepped away from the 9–5 grind to build a business that gives me what matters most: time with my kids while they’re still little enough to want it.
